Ibermeteo currently owns three automatic weather stations to collect agrometeorological data. These weather stations are located in Azeitão, Setúbal municipality; Veade, municipality of Celorico de Basto; and in Passô /Granja Nova on the border between the municipalities of Moimenta da Beira and Tarouca. These stations aim to collect and obtain important meteorological data, such as air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, leaf wetness, among others, in order to support farming management.

The regions where these stations were located by Ibermeteo are areas of the country with poor coverage of quality agrometeorological information, which is essential in the support provided for farmers/winemakers. Ibermeteo intends to reinforce its presence in these regions. We commit not only with improving our forecasting service, but also with providing our partners with the best tools to help them make the right decisions.

Farming is one of the areas where weather forecasts are extremely important. The occurrence of pests and diseases is related to meteorological factors and may cause huge losses to producers. Downy mildew, powdery mildew, scald, scab, San José scale and codling moth are examples of pests and diseases that require treatments that might be expensive. Additionally, the efficient use of water is also very important for farming activities. Forecasting the weather conditions that lead to the occurrence of these pests and diseases is critical as well as forecasting the amount of water available in the soil, especially in the areas of horticulture and viticulture. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of treatments and have a better management of irrigation schedules as well as use preventive instead of curative treatments, saving a lot of money.

Considering the importance of this information, Ibermeteo developed, with the cooperation of water management and technology applied for farming companies, forecasts of specific meteorological parameters for farming and agriculture. These forecasts, associated with more complete and detailed information and weather monitoring of meteorological parameters will allow the customer to save a lot of money in water management and treatment of these pests and diseases.
